Pigeon & Shadow MG_2605
© Reidar Schopp, All Rights Reserved, www.RLSFoto.com. Continuation of the "My Daily Commute" series of driving to and from but now it is NBC every day for about 3 hours of road time daily. In the mornings I am in daylight, but more often than not, my drive home is at night. In the mornings, I am attempting to freeze objects as I pass. Nights, the shutter speed is set to seconds and the attempt is to generate images that are colorful and other worldly; my version of a Jackson Pollock paintings but my canvas is normally black or navy blue.
This series started a few yeaqrs ago when a past client required a substantial amount of my time in their office which consumed the time I would have spent on my conceptual studio images, building sets, and recruiting model volunteers. With my conceptual pieces, the work is planned. For this series, it is random to what captures my eye, usually my peripheral vision. As scenes flash by, I need to keep the camera in one hand, the lens resting on my upper arm of the steering hand so that the camera is ready to be aimed.
For this particular image, pigeons nest in this gap there the 110 Fwy becomes a double decker. I was watching the pigeons flying above traffic so I positioned the camera pointing up to the area they nest and started shooting. I like the way the igeon's shadow fell into the triangular pattern on the wall.
