January 23, 2014 - Photographed Rayden Sinn and Side Show for their engagement session. What I can count on with Rayden is the openness to concepts, even those that a far from ordinary and even a bit disturbing. This session was no different.
Rayden told me she wanted to be covered in blood with Side Show. At the time I did not know the backstory, but I always have theatrical blood in the studio so I agreed (I cannot think of any occasion where I told Rayden no to a concept). I added an additional concept before they showed up as well where I wanted to hang Side Show upside down kissing Rayden.
When they arrived and entered the studio, I pointed out the block and tackle to hoist Side Show into the air so that his face and Rayden's are at the same level. It took a few attempts to figure out the least painful method of lifting Side Show into the air. He found that my knee pads (used when restoring the floors of my house) turned inside out and placed behind his knees felt tolerable if we worked fairly fast. It took lifting him three times to get the shot. I could have used an assistant for this as holding the rope to keep him in the air plus holding and focusing the camera was a bit much. But, I did not drop him and no one was permanently injured. Rayden commented that she was glad the pain was inflicted on Side Show and not her this time (last time I had her in a rough sawn wooden crate while chained).
